Leech Therapy.

Medicinal Leech Therapy (MLT) or Hirudo therapy is a kind of complementary and integrated treatment method applied with blood sucking leeches. Since the time of ancient Egypt, leeches have been used in medicines to treat nervous system abnormalities, dental problems, skin diseases and infections. Today they are mostly used in plastic surgery and other microsurgery.

Leech Therapy has been found effective in the treatment of a number of chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Leeches are also empirically used to treat chronic lower back pain. Leeches, of course, were used in ancient times, as part of the pseudoscientific practice of bloodletting.

Few people are aware that Leech Therapy have made a comeback in legitimate medicine over the past few decades, and is now used in rare cases as a way to maintain blood flow in surgically attached tissue i.e., mainly in plastic surgery.

Leech Therapy is ideal for the following diseases :-
  • Circulatory diseases.
  • Cardiovascular diseases.
  • Hypertension.
  • Varicose veins.
  • Haemorrhoids.
  • Skin problems – psoriasis, eczema.
  • Arthritis.
  • Gout.
  • Osteoarthritis.
  • Migraine.

Hijama Therapy.

Hijama Therapy is also known as vacuum cupping, horn treatment etc. It is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. This causes the tissue beneath the cup to be drawn up and rise causing increase in blood flow to the affected area.

There are specific times when Hijama Therapy is done. The recommended times for Hijama are on the17th, 19th and 21st days of the month according to the Islamic / Hijri / Lunar calendar. If not feasible, it can be done in the latter part of the lunar calendar.

Hijama Therapy was used by Hippocrates in ancient Greece (c 400 BC). This therapy was highly recommended by Muhammad and hence well-practiced by Muslim scientists who elaborated and developed the method further.

Prophet Muhammad said, “whoever performs hijama on the 17th, 19th or 21st day (of the Islamic, lunar month), then it is a cure for every disease.”

Though it has no scientific proof, still there is growing evidence that wet cupping is effective in musculoskeletal pain, nonspecific back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia and other painful conditions. Michelsen et al (2009) concluded that Hijama Therapy may be effective in alleviating the pain and other symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Hijama Therapy is beneficial for the following diseases :-

  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis.
  • Provide pain relief.
  • Induces feelings of relaxation.
  • Stress relief.
  • Acne
  • Acute and chronic Sinusitis.
  • Anxiety.
  • Muscular back pain.

  • Asthma.
  • Constipation.
  • Diabetes.
  • Fatigue
  • Female infertility.
  • Hypertension etc.

Dry Cupping Therapy.

Dry Cupping Therapy is that when the vacuum lift helps to increase blood flow and induce a stretch effect, which results in a reduction in muscle tension and associated pain. In Dry Cupping Therapy, cups can either be left in a static position or moved to provide a deep tissue massage effect. Dry Cupping is performed by licensed and doctors who are experts in these therapies.

Dry Cupping therapy is beneficial for the following diseases :-

  1. Anaemia and Haemophilia.
  2. Arthritis
  3. Fibromyalgia.
  4. Fertility and gynaecological disorders.
  5. Eczema and Acne.
  6. High blood pressure.
  7. Migraine.
  8. Anxiety and depression.

Fire Cupping Therapy.

Fire Cupping Therapy is a treatment technique that places glass, jars on the skin to enhance circulation, relieve pain, and extract toxins from the body.

Fire Cupping Therapy may relieve muscle tension, which can improve the overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It also helps to form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

The major difference between Cupping and Fire Cupping is that a small amount of gas is exchanged during the suction manoeuvre in vacuum cupping, with a possibility of some oxygen left in the cups. Fire Cupping, however, produces negative pressure by burning the oxygen, so there is next to no oxygen in the cups.

Fire Cupping may cause soreness, depending upon the degree of suction created by the vacuum and the level of internal stagnation. The cups are often placed on the back, neck and shoulders or the site of the pain. The cups are passed through a special machine that sterilizes the cups and are thus extremely safe for use.

Fire Cupping is ideal for the following diseases :-

  • Muscular pain.
  • Frozen shoulder.
  • Joint pain.
  • Skin problems.
  • Respiratory disorders – to some extent.
